Why your Red Lipstick never works out the way you plan?

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

I am such a sucker for anything Snow White red lipstick. Ruby woo is my all time favorite-- it's matte, classic, and dangerously one of a kind. There's nothing more powerful, seductive, fierce looking, than a good ole' red lipstick any time of the day.  But let's face it, red lipstick isn't for everyone, I came across a lot of girls who are afraid to put on some red because they think they couldn't pull it off, or reds are too flirty, or their lips were too dry, etc. I had those times when my red lipstick doesn't seem to go right either. But I do believe that red lipstick could be for every one of us. We just have to learn how to choose the right shade and be confident about it. Let me take you with these 2 basic steps on how we should get ready for a classic red lipstick kind of day or night.
For a start, prepare your lips by exfoliating it. Wearing red lipstick especially the matte ones, can tend to draw out or emphasize all your flaws, making it difficult to apply the lipstick. By exfoliating the lips, you are getting rid of the dead skin cells and unwanted peeling skins, making your pucker really smooth and soft.
I like using this rubber exfoliating pad that I originally bought for the face at Saizen store. Works like magic on the lips, that's why I also use this one especially when I want to get rid of the dryness. If you do not have this one, you can easily use your toothbrush or make your own Lip Scrub.
Very convenient, easy to do, works wonders on the lips!
You just basically need some sugar, petrolleum jelly, and honey. Gently massage your lips with it, and get a slightly wet warm towel to wipe it off. Your lips will feel baby smooth after this.

Lastly, all the exfoliation can sometimes dry your lips too.. so it is best to apply a lipbalm before anything else. I love using this Honey Trap Lip Balm from Lush. It makes my lips super soft and moisturized all day. Plus the scent is amazing! makes me wanna eat it.
Applying a lip balm before lipstick will also help keep your lipstick fresh all day and avoid a caked on effect on the lips especially if you are using matte lippies.

And now that your lips are freshly prepped.. it's now time to pop on those firing red lipsticks! Here are some of my fave lipstick picks from my collection.
Ruby woo, Avon, Mirenesse, Cherry bomb, and the Maybelline Touch of Spice.

The Reds vs. The Dark reds

Here are some of them swatched on my lips...
The Ruby Woo (retro-matte) -- a very gorgeous red, and can practically survive anything. You can eat, drink, kiss, or dance in the rain with it. (lol but srsly)

Maybelline's Touch of Spice (matte)-- a deep vampy red. Perfect for a date night! and a great dupe for MAC Diva.

Avon (creamy)-- affordable and not drying on the lips.

I honestly never thought that I could love wearing Red lipsticks as much as I do now.. If I needed to feel extra powerful I would just put on some red. And surprisingly, it has become like a thing now.. My own personal trademark. So ladies, it's really just about having a good prep of your lips and a whole damn of courage to do so. Never be afraid to put on and be bold, life is too short to stay on your safe zone. Have a happy red lipstick day! x

  19. First time on your blog, so far so good, loving this post :) Red is way waaaaaay out of my comfort zone !!! But I think I'm willing to give it a try. Thank you for the suggestions, maybe I'll start with the Avon one since it's affordable & if I end up confirming red lipstick isn't my thing I won't have any regrets ;)
